To all those who have a pistol permit and need to be informed of the recertification part of the SAFEact , here is a page from the County Clerk's FB page.
December 28, 2016 Hello again, a few updates for my pistol permit customers! New info from the SP for you that I wanted to share. Please like and share this post, and as always if you have questions - call, email me, send a message or stop me in the store!! Letters will begin to go out to those who have had a permit issued prior to 1/31/2013 beginning next week 1/3/17. I do not know how they will send letters out, by county? alpha? etc., but I was told they will start next week. Everyone that is supposed to get a letter is supposed to, by this law, receive their letter by 1/31/17. Once you get your letter it will have info about the website, what to do, what info they want, etc. PLEASE NOTE YOU HAVE UNTIL 1/31/18 TO SUBMIT your re-certification. If you complete the recert process ONLINE - THAT DATE becomes your "recert date" for the next time (provided that no changes take place regarding this). You will get an email receipt telling you this. For example if you decide on May 5, 2017 to go online to do your re-certification, May 5, 2022 is the date by which you must recert again. If you renew by paper/certified mail - your re-cert date will be the date that the SP STAMP YOUR FORM AS RECEIVED. So, if you mail your paper form (via certified mail so you get a receipt showing you mailed it) on November 15, 2017 but, the SP don't open and stamp your form until Feb. 25, 2018 - THAT IS YOUR RE-CERT DATE - 2/25/2023 is your date. You will NOT be notified of this by the SP as of now, you can go online to check the status of your re-cert and/or if you provide an email address you will be notified via email. Nothing by snail mail however. As I stated previously, I will have a laptop computer available at the Clerk's office for people to use to either print the form or re-cert online if you do not have a computer or internet access. You can also use this laptop to check the status of your re-cert form. There are several new questions that came up - what if I transfer - does my date stay the same? What about amendments that happen between when I re-cert and it gets processed? - I was told regarding amendments that their system should be able to cross reference that, and also that they will be communicating w/the individual counties for assistance in that regard. As always, this is fluid information and is subject to change!! However, I wanted to pass along the information for your knowledge, especially the "what will my date be" question which came up at the last CC Sportsmen Federation meeting earlier this month. Thank you for sharing this important information! Please LIKE my page if you haven't already to stay up date on the latest and for other important DMV/Clerk related topics!
